Hong Kong Party Time

It’s time for another red holiday in town! We love the Mid Autumn celebration around Hong Kong, Mid Autumn Festival is the prettiest night of the year. Light a lantern and watch the moonrise or catch with all the events around!

The origin of the Mid Autumn Festival derived from the tradition of worshipping the goddess of Moon. The festival is also a time to celebrate a good autumn harvest. It dates back thousands of years and despite the rustic origins, the highly urbanized and modernize Hong Kong still celebrates this holiday. Among the many traditional Chinese festivals celebrated in this global capital of Chinese festivals, Mid-Autumn Festival has been one of the most important Chinese festivals when families get together to celebrate good harvest by enjoying a big meal and appreciate the full moon. Lantern, parades, parties are commonly held in the main neighborhoods of Hong Kong, with displays of beautifully designed lanterns in different shapes and colors. The public can enjoy spectacular lantern displays and performances featuring classical songs and dance and traditional stage arts around the city.

Traditionally, moon cakes are the food of this festival. In Hong Kong, you can find dozens varieties of moon cake with nuts or ham, with white lotus seed paste, red bean paste, green bean paste, fruit or chocolate flavor.

Another great place to visit is the Tain Hang Dragon dance. This fire dragon dances on the three days that the Mid-Autumn Festival last. The event involves 300 performers, 72,000 incense sticks and a 67-metre-long dragon producing a spectacle of fire, smoke and dynamic fury as it dances and winds its way through the narrow backstreets of Tai Hang.

We hope you enjoy this holidays! With all the festivals around Hong Kong!
