Hong Kong Party Time

It’s time for another red holiday in town! We love the Mid Autumn celebration around Hong Kong, Mid Autumn Festival is the prettiest night of the year. Light a lantern and watch the moonrise or catch with all the events around!

The origin of the Mid Autumn Festival derived from the tradition of worshipping the goddess of Moon. The festival is also a time to celebrate a good autumn harvest. It dates back thousands of years and despite the rustic origins, the highly urbanized and modernize Hong Kong still celebrates this holiday. Among the many traditional Chinese festivals celebrated in this global capital of Chinese festivals, Mid-Autumn Festival has been one of the most important Chinese festivals when families get together to celebrate good harvest by enjoying a big meal and appreciate the full moon. Lantern, parades, parties are commonly held in the main neighborhoods of Hong Kong, with displays of beautifully designed lanterns in different shapes and colors. The public can enjoy spectacular lantern displays and performances featuring classical songs and dance and traditional stage arts around the city.

Traditionally, moon cakes are the food of this festival. In Hong Kong, you can find dozens varieties of moon cake with nuts or ham, with white lotus seed paste, red bean paste, green bean paste, fruit or chocolate flavor.

Another great place to visit is the Tain Hang Dragon dance. This fire dragon dances on the three days that the Mid-Autumn Festival last. The event involves 300 performers, 72,000 incense sticks and a 67-metre-long dragon producing a spectacle of fire, smoke and dynamic fury as it dances and winds its way through the narrow backstreets of Tai Hang.

We hope you enjoy this holidays! With all the festivals around Hong Kong!

Mexican Fiesta

Last night we had a great night at the Mexican reception organized by the Mexican Consulate in Hong Kong at the Shangri-la! Thumbs up for the Margaritas and all the delicious food we enjoyed!
I was impressed from the Hong Kong Police Band that was invited to play traditional Mexican music and of course during the ceremony we could hear the Mexican anthem! But what is always very close to my heart is the GRITO DE DOLORES It’s always very exciting to hear all my nationals saying in one voice: VIVA MEXICO!! VIVA! These famous words have been remembered and are said each year at the Independence Day celebrations.

Here is a little summary of the origin of this important day in Mexico:

And just to finish...
Here is the Guacamole recipe. Share and ENJOY!
Ingredients
1/4-piece of a small onion, chopped,

1 fresh tomato, chopped

1 serrano chile, seeded or not (depending on how hot you like it), and chopped

2 lbs/900 g avocados, halved and pitted

2 tablespoons chopped cilantro leaves

Juice of 1 lime
salt

Add the onion, tomato and serrano to a bowl, along with some salt to taste. Mix them together until the tomato bits have fallen apart slightly, and the mixture looks wet and smells aromatic.
In an other bowl spoon the avocados into and grind them, until the mixture is mostly smooth, with a few avocado chunks here and there. (I love, love chunky guac.) Add your previous mixture. Then add the cilantro and lime juice, and a little salt. Stir to taste.
Add more salt and lime juice if needed.
Serve with tortilla chips.

We started this year full of fun! Ela's bday party was a CARNIVAL!  I just loved to work with the Orengo Family. It was a great party full of color where the read and white where our main color! To make this real, Ela's parents and Vanille have conjured up a full-blown carnival with a midway of games, food, and prizes.

Have a look to our pictures...
